Region:

Mokelumne River

The Mokelumne River appellation is tucked into southern Lodi in California's Central Valley. The region is home to nearly half of all winegrowing acreage in Lodi, most of which is Zinfandel. Some of the Zinfandel plantings are considered to be "old vine," indicating that they are some of the region's original vines and can be up to 50 years old. Broadly, Lodi is considered to be a hot Mediterranean climate, but the Mokelumne River appellation is actually the coolest during the growing season of all sub-appellations. Sandy loamy soils make the region uniquely special, and winemakers flock to grow beautiful wines in the area.
